The rain keeps falling here in Houston, Texas. Tropical Storm/Hurricane Alex has been rolling into Mexico for the past week or so and we have been getting non-stop rain because of it. With my grandma living in Brownsville I was slightly worried she may have needed to evacuate. Thankfully, she didn’t. My heart goes out to any of the families in Mexico that may have lost a loved one from the hurricane.

My Norton subscription recently ended and I happily removed it off my computer after discovering the new free security suite that was put out by Microsoft. If you haven’t already checked out the new Microsoft Security Essentials then you’re missing out. No more having to pay for good virus scanners such as McAfee and Norton! No more having to deal with slow resource hogging virus scanners like AVG either!

I’m actually surprised to see Microsoft giving this out for free. Considering they charge for everything else they produce I begin to wonder what made them decide to give this package out for free. We all know that big security companies such as Norton charge close to $20 per month for such a product. An even bigger question that comes to mind is – what’s going to happen to these larger security companies now?

If you have a Facebook account then I’m pretty sure you have heard or seen the word “App” before. So what exactly is a Facebook app? Well… have you ever logged into your Facebook account and had someone send you an invitation to join them in Mafia Wars? How about someone requesting to add your birthday to their calendar? Or, send you a gift such as a drink or a cup of coffee? All of these things are done using an App, short for Application. Facebook has their own language called FBML which goes in nicely with PHP and some of these applications do not take much coding. Many businesses have also started making fun facebook applications to help promote their business. The nice thing about Facebook applications is that a unique and interactive game can have visitors coming back on a daily basis.

I did not write this app from scratch. I did find a chunk of the code online and made appropriate changes for a more unique style and feal. Take a second and visit Mafia Beat Down. It’s a fun RPG (role-player game) that allows you to build a mafia character and earn cash, build a posse, buy weapons, fight other users, and tons of other cool stuff. Take a second and check it out, your character is created by simply adding the application.

My girlfriend never really thought about getting a blog started until we started dating, lol. I explained to her how blogs can be a great way to share events going on in your life and good/bad things that happen along the way. She decided it was time for her to start one and now we are on our way. She’s really into music and has decided she wants to start a new music blog. I’ve been scanning deleted domain lists lately and also looking around the boards to see what others are selling. If you have some cool music blog related domains for sale please feel free to share them in a comment, but DON’T SPAM! If you know of some cool ones that are available feel free to share those as well. If I register one of them I will repay you with a blogroll link to one of your sites or something. Once we find the right domain I’ll be tricking her new blog out with a nice theme and everything else. Can’t wait!
